We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional never-worn piece – like this one, most of our items have been gently worn by just one previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring the items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This slip was clearly meant to be seen and not covered up! There is no label on this slip, nor did we expect to find one. Lingerie of this quality was usually made by custom dressmakers or tailors. There is just one very-minor bodice alteration. Invisible darts were made in the lace at the top of both side seams. The darts can be easily let out, thus restoring the original bust measurement of about 40 inches.
There no holes and no stains. Indeed, the slip appears to have been made just yesterday! Considering the 75-some years of age, it is truly amazing that this slip has survived in such beautiful condition!
The fabric is an unbelievably soft silk charmeuse with a gentle “shimmer” to it. French seams are used in the side seams, and the hem is finished with an intricate scalloping stitch.
’Gloria’ wears a size 33, and we used clothespins to make the slip appear as a perfect fit for her! This marvelous slip is as ready to wear as the 1930s day when it was made. It is fit for a star – YOU – the leading Star of your own life!
