This silk teddy dates from the late 1920s, and is one of Richard’s prettiest silk “frillies” in the New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie! You will find this beauty in both the “Flapper Frillies” and “Camisoles & Teddies” departments. Click on one of the 'Gloria' models to explore our unique boutiques!
We at Silver Screen Loungerie, strive to offer vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, like this one, most of our items have been gently worn by just one previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring the items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This teddy appears to have slipped through the cracks of time with no flaws found anywhere in the garment. It appears to have never been worn during the past 85 years! The silk crepe fabric and grid-like drawn work are all in wonderful condition. Even the silk ribbons (serving as shoulder straps and neckline ties) show no signs of splitting or age deterioration. (We do not recommend pulling on the neckline ribbon. Leave it as-is, or loosely tied.)
This is a pullover style teddy, with two shell buttons securing the back-to-front flap piece between the legs. The shoulder straps do not have “slider” adjustments, and are overly long. This allows for a custom alteration of the strap length by the new owner. With the shoulder straps paper-clipped-up about 2-1/2 inches for ‘Gloria’, the shoulder-to-flap buttons length is a comfortable 36-1/2 inches. (Note that the full length of the straps will give a longer shoulder-to-hem length.)
The “Trillium Silk Underthings” label is intact, and reads clearly. The “36” refers to the size, but we measured 38 inches (all the way around) two inches below the top edge. Both the silk crepe fabric and the embroidery are of the highest quality. We rarely see these old pieces in such beautiful condition, but this one is actually unworn! This teddy is destined to be worn by a Star… the Star of her own Boudoir Life!
