We at Silver Screen Loungerie, endeavor to offer vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, like this one, most of our items have been gently worn by just one previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This silk nightgown has no maker’s label, but it was made of the finest laces and silk with French seams. The diagonal “bias” seams use the fabric’s selvadge, (finished edge), which was (still is) a technique used by the talented Chinese silk workers in the 1930s.
The “X-Cross” lace bodice conjures up visions of the slinky satin gowns worn by Jean Harlow – the platinum-haired Hollywood bombshell of the 1930s! This lace extends over the shoulders, and around the sides… and meet at the centre back.
The bust cups and the bias-cut skirt are one glorious pour of the finest silk satin! (This is not a light-weight charmeuse-silk!) At the scalloped hem, the flared skirt has a “sweep” of 126 inches.
On our 5’ – 10” in-house ‘Gloria’ model, the gown falls 62 inches, almost to the floor. This exceptional nightgown is certain to bring great joy to the fortunate buyer… YOU, the “dreamy” Star of your own Life!
