This is one of the most glamorous silk dressing gowns from the early 1930s, and it is in near-mint condition. This dressing gown would be perfect over a simple slip or nightgown, or over nothing at all! On “SSL”, the gown is shown in both the Dressing Gowns and Richard’s Collection categories. We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been gently worn by just one previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring the items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This is a wrap-style gown, with an inside snap, and a hook & thread-eye closure over the left hip. For a looser or tighter fit, just the attached self-fabric waist ties can be used. (There is plenty of overlap of the left front under the right.) The fabric is an early 30s silk satin of medium weight, and we found no signs of previous wear. (There are just two tiny spots at the center-back bottom.) The marvelous lace panels are also completely free of holes or discolorations.
The “Featured Exclusively by Carolyn” label is intact, and a smaller ‘NRA’ tag is nearby. (‘NRA’ means “National Recovery Act” in the 1930s.) This robe is in such great condition, so we decided against laundering it just to get rid of the fold lines from long storage! Whether worn only in the boudoir, or as a charming hostess gown, this garment is wonderful on YOU, the Star of your own Life!
