This sheer silk chiffon nightgown dates from the late 1930s, and has never yet been worn! It is one of Richard’s select group of “knockout” beauties in the New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie. We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been gently worn by just one previous or original owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This nightgown has no maker’s label, but it was made to highest dressmaking standards of the 1930s. The fabric is that very-thin, “cobwebby” type of silk chiffon… a fabric that is almost non-existent today. At 160 inches around – the hem of the bias-cut skirt forms a half-circle, and there is not a single hole or stain in it! The gown features five large satin appliqués – all perfectly embroidered into place. Two smaller appliqués adorn the wide shoulder straps of this gown.
The fabric is a sheer, “cobwebby” type of silk chiffon, and it is simply without flaws of any kind! The hem is finished with a 2-inches wide chiffon flounce… which when set in motion, swirls beautifully around the ankles!
On our 5’ – 11” ‘Gloria’ model, the long skirt extends to below her ankles.
