This is the second of two sensational nightgowns that are also works of lingerie art! Both nightgowns are among the best of the 1930s, and they are still the best available in the Year 2011! The gowns are available here in both the Bridal Trousseau and Richard’s Collection categories. Click on one of the 'Gloria' models to explore our special boutiques!
We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been either gently or moderately worn by a previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring items – as much as possible – to their original beauty.
This silk georgette nightgown is in wonderful condition – looking much the same as the 1930s day when it was made! Looking carefully, we found no signs of previous wear, and we marveled at the quality of the inner construction. All the seams are French seamed, including the so-called “bias” seams near the hem. Hard to see are the many silk satin appliqués, which are stitched in place on the semi-sheer silk. The neckline and armhole edges are finished with bias strips of silk satin. The bottom hem-flounce is finished with a delicate scalloping stitch. The half-circle skirt (184” sweep) is a thorough delight, but requires a hand on the hem at times.
We hand-laundered the gown, as we needed to remove some surface dust and fold lines from long storage. (For the buyer, dry cleaning is recommended, as it is difficult to smooth out the appliqués after laundering.) The gown is now in near-mint condition… perfect for the lady who wants the very best for her vintage lingerie collection!
