This peignoir-robe & nightgown set was made by Radcliffe, and it dates from the late 1930s. It has a cabbage roses print on soft, rayon charmeuse satin. Both pieces are in excellent condition, and indicate gentle wear and care by the previous owner. You will find this beauty in both the “Peignoir Sets” and “Richard’s Collection” departments. We at Silver Screen Loungerie are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality possible. While we occasionally find the rare “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been either gently or moderately worn by a previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care to restore items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This Radcliffe peignoir set is a great example of a previously owned piece that that has been lovingly restored to its original condition. The “points” of the pinked seam allowances show very-little wear, and there are no holes that we could find. The rayon satin fabric has a most-delightful feel against the skin, and the cabbage-roses print is clear and not faded. Even the Radcliffe label is unfrayed and easy to read.
As with most peignoir sets from this era, the nightgown is somewhat longer than the matching gown. This is because the robe was often worn as a “dressing” gown… like for combing m’lady’s hair before a strenuous day of garden parties! Not noted in the measurements below… The sleeves are ¾ length, and about 20-1/2 inches from the shoulder seam. Across the back of the robe, it’s about 14-3/4 inches, seam-to-seam. On our 5’ – 11” Gloria model, the nightgown runs 61 inches to just below Gloria’s ankles.
This ensemble will be a joy to wear, and fit for a Star – YOU – the Leading Lady of your own Life!
