Wonder of wonders how this Wonder Maid-labeled nightgown managed to “survive” the past 65 years in such pristine condition! This gown is one of the most beautiful treasures from Richard’s fabulous ‘Nitie Room’ in New Jersey. You will find the gown listed in the Bridal Trousseau and Richard’s Collection departments. We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality possible. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been either gently or moderately worn by a previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring the items – as much as possible – to their original beauty.
This nightgown is clearly in the best possible condition – looking exactly the same as the day it was made some 65 years ago! The nightgown features a lace-adorned bodice that is among the most beautiful that we’ve ever seen. The sheer (cotton) lace extends out into the perky sleeve caps, and it also trims the back neckline. More of this lace is seen at the hem with the scalloped edge stitched to the rayon.
Let me tell you that this rayon crepe-de-chine fabric is the best that we’ve ever seen and felt… bar none! The fabric was actually made by Bur-Mil, (Burlington Mills), and their “Quality” logo appears on one side of the fabric care tag. (Laundering instructions are given on the reverse side of this tag.)
As worn by our 5’ – 11” ‘Gloria’ model, the gown drapes a full 60 inches to her ankles. The gown looks so becoming on Gloria, that she really didn’t want to take it off! …And so it will be for the lucky buyer… the Leading Lady of her Life will not want to take it off!
