This is a most astounding piece of lingerie from the early 1930s and it is in near-perfect condition! This is a very-rare Richard’s Collection beauty, and it is being shown in both the Dressing Gowns and Bridal Trousseau categories. We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are committed to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality possible. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been either gently or moderately worn by a previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring the items – as much as possible – to their original beauty.
This museum-quality robe has no flaws that we could find… amazing condition for a 70-to-80-years old silk boudoir garment! By comparison to gowns with similar or identical lace patterns, we have determined that this garment was made in pre-WW 2 Shanghai, China. The quality of the silk and lace tells us this! The master silk craftsmen in Shanghai were unequalled in their lacework and other embellishments in silk lingerie. Much of the work was done by hand, including hand-stitching of the French seams.
The garment has the most-unique “fly-away” sleeves, which are cape-like over the sides and back of the robe. The sleeves are open on the undersides… there are no seams.
Although silk lingerie is often hand-laundered, we advise dry cleaning for this most precious garment. Hand-laundering might shrink or “pucker” the lace a bit, and that would be difficult to iron out.
Whether acquired as a beautiful display piece, or worn to simply “feel good” in, this garment is wonderful on YOU -- the Star of your own Life!
