This fabulous nightgown was made by the talented silk artisans in post WW-2 Shanghai, China. Silk was first produced in China centuries ago, and this nightgown shows off Peony’s undiminished artistry in creating this beautiful nightgown! The gown comes from Richard’s fabulous collection which is located in our New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie. It is listed in both the Nightgowns and Bridal Trousseau categories. We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are committed to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality possible. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been either gently or moderately worn by a previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring items – as much as possible – to their original beauty.
This nightgown appears to have never been worn, and the Peony label is as pristine as the gown itself. Another tag near the hem gives the fabric content in three languages… Soie Naturelle - Pure Silk – Reine Seide. The gown is in incredible condition for its 40-some years of age… it seems like it was made just yesterday!
The bodice is a basic, surplice-wrap style, and using silk floss, the gown is embroidered along all of the scalloped edges. The hem is finished with a unique “5 in 1” scallop pattern, with a tiny embroidered “dot” at the center of each larger scallop. Incredible detailing! Our 5’ – 11” size 33 ‘Gloria’ delights in the beautiful fit and of this gown, and simply did not want to take it off! Even with this larger size, please be aware that the stated measurements are those of the garment itself.
This “Shanghai Siren is as ready to wear as the day it was made, and is fit for a Star – YOU – the Leading Lady of your Life!
