This wonderful nightdress dates from the 1920s, and is a prize piece among Richard’s Collection of silk pieces from the fabulous Roaring Twenties! You will find this beauty in both the “Bridal Trousseau” and “Richard’s Collection” departments.
The gown is one of the most beautiful pieces of silk lingerie that we have seen from any period… regardless of “era”! Yolande is best known for their bias-cut slips and gowns from the 30s and 40s, but to find an unworn Yolande silk dating from the 1920s… extraordinary!!
Like almost all lingerie from the 1920s and earlier, this piece was cut to hang loosely, A-line style from the shoulders. There is no restrictive waist seam, and the garment is cut on the straight-of-grain. A bi-coloured silk ribbon is provided to cinch in the waist, but we think the gown looks best when falling straight from the shoulders. Note also the bi-coloured silk ribbon fastened to the right shoulder. Silk ribbons usually deteriorate with age, but these ribbons are perfect.
At the centre of the picot-stitched neckline is a large spray of “3-D” silk flowerlets. These are also in perfect condition. (You can see a detail of this in the 3rd picture.) The scalloped hem is also finished with the picot-stitch technique, and as with every piece from Yolande, the sides have French seams.
We have included a pretty, silk chiffon bed jacket as a “bonus”! The different colours of the two pieces do not matter in your own boudoir! Besides, you can wear the bed jacket with a peach-coloured silk nightgown from the 30s… perhaps one from SSL? The possibilities are endless!
We offer this as a wonderful boudoir ensemble that will be a joy to the fortunate buyer! It is ready to wear and fit for a Star – YOU – the Leading Lady of your Life!
