The gown shows all the style characteristics of the Victorian Era, but might possibly have been made after the turn of the 19th Century…. In the Edwardian Era. It’s hard to conceive how the gown kept its beauty intact over this long period of time!
The finest dressmaker techniques were used…... the tiniest of French seams for the long side-seams. A large pink silk bow, with four “streamers”, is affixed over the left breast. The bodice is all Victorian in style….. with many pintucks adding fullness over the bust. The 3/4-length sleeves end in lacy cuffs, and the squared neckline is trimmed with Valenciennes lace matching that on the cuffs.
The fabric is a thin cotton lawn, which is in immaculate condition. The size is essentially a “one-size-fits-all”, and is intended to float freely from the shoulders.
Although the gown is a treasureable “museum piece”, it is eminently wearable by today’s modern woman! It is also fit for a star – YOU – the leading lady in your life!
