Bendel Roses! Unworn Silk Robe & Nightgown Set by Henri Bendel Sz- 34 (#1096)

The original Henri Bendel was a posh ladies apparel store, and was located at 10-14 West 57th Street, just off Fifth Avenue in New York City. Under new management, it is still in business, and has moved to a nearby location on Fifth Avenue. This rare peignoir set was made in-house in the original store, and has never been worn.

This is one of our most prized peignoir sets, and it resides in our New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie. You will find the set listed in both the “Peignoir Sets” and “Richard’s Collection” departments. Click on one of the 'Gloria' models to explore our special Boutiques!

Both pieces of this circa 1950s set are in mint-perfect condition with no flaws that we could find. It’s likely that the set was bought for a very-special occasion but was never worn, and was put away under perfect storage conditions. The fabric is a pastel mint-green silk crepe-de-chine, with a print of tiny roses and other multi-coloured flowers. The skirt of the nightgown is bias-cut, while the skirt of the robe is “box-pleated” all around. The robe is closed at the center-front by several square Lucite buttons.

The construction of the set is perfect! The gown has French seams throughout, and the robe seam allowances were finished with pinking shears. The skirt of the robe has a tremendous “sweep” of 102 inches.
